Everyone looks forward to summer for some reason or another; the weather, the extra light, the weekend trips planned, the list could go on! For kids, their greatest joy comes from the 3 months off of school. For parents, this can cause a lot of stress and anxiety, thinking about how they can keep their kids busy all summer long. Here are some ideas for how to keep your kids busy and your stress levels down while having them home all summer.

Make a Schedule – The school year is wonderful because everyone has routines. That’s where summer becomes tricky. Make a loose schedule for your kids so they at least have some direction in the day. It can be based around meal times, chores that need to be done, or any daily plans they may have. People thrive off of routine, so you will help them by establishing even a loosely scheduled one.

Sign-Up for Camps – Find a camp that your child is interested in and sign them up for it. This will get them out of the house for a few days or even weeks! Sports camps, educational camps, nature camps, Alaska has them all!

Give them Chores
– Make your life easier and give them a summer job by having daily chores for them to complete during the week. Dishes, laundry, mowing the lawn, or taking out the trash, all can be done by your middle schooler or high schooler.

Limit Screen Time – Sick of seeing your kid looking at the TV or phone all day? Limit the number of hours of screen time. Playing outside, exploring the neighborhood, reading books, or playing games are all great ways to have fun without technology.
