Nightingale– Goodreads Best Historical fiction novel in 2015, Best Book of the Year by Amazon, iTunes, Buzzfeed,
and the Wallstreet Journal. If you are interested in WWII, this historical fiction novel is one of our favorites on the subject. The story touches on love, family, and resistance in the heart of war. Highly recommend this book, it is hard to put down
from the very beginning!
Great Alone – From the Author of the Nightingale, Kristin Hannah writes another book that seems impossible
to put down. What kept us interested in the story is based in off-the-grid Alaska and references many towns and Alaska life that I’m sure any Alaskan can relate to in some way. It tells the tales of the effects of the light and dark seasons on one’s mind
and how independent one must be to live in the remote areas of the state. The story also touches on the importance of community. A must read!
The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down – A true story of the collision of two cultures and their differences in medical beliefs and treatments. Alaska is a very diverse state and
reading this book opened our eyes to the significance of cultural differences in everyday life. It is engaging and touches on so many sensitive subjects; you will find yourself having opinions and watching them change chapter after chapter. At the end
of the day, right and wrong aren’t black and white.
Sapiens- In Sapiens, Dr. Yuval Noah Harari spans the whole of human history, from the very first humans to walk the earth to the radical – and
sometimes devastating – breakthroughs of the Cognitive, Agricultural and Scientific Revolutions. Drawing on insights from biology, anthropology, paleontology and economics, he explores how the currents of history have shaped our human societies, the animals
and plants around us, and even our personalities. Full of facts yet still easy to read. If you read any book about the history of humankind, this should be it!
I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer - A masterful true crime account of the Golden State Killer—the elusive serial rapist turned murderer
who terrorized California for over a decade—from Michelle McNamara, the gifted journalist who died tragically while investigating the case. An incredible read that will have you checking your doors and windows in the process.
