Pricing Trends in Alaska

According to Zillow Anchorage metro area will have a 4.5% predicted increase in home values over the next 12 months. What does this mean? Buy sooner rather than later.

Trulia.com data for individual Alaskan cities gives a good look at the average listing prices of cities around Alaska. Averages in the major Alaska cities are as follows:

Anchorage - $345,114
Juneau - $339,545
Wasilla - $282,443
Homer - $254,900
Fairbanks -  $199,561

The Alaska Housing Finance Corporation has released the average prices of monthly rent around the state. The rent prices have stayed relatively stable statewide since 2011 except in Kodiak. Kodiak’s average rent increased by 18% since 2011. The statewide average is $1,148 and the Kodiak average is $1,433.

Did you know that renting in Alaska is $100 to $200 above the national average? You know what that means? Financially, it’s smarter to buy than rent. Time to start saving towards a down payment and stop throwing away your money on rent.
